Asparagus Frequently Asked Questions
Asparagus Nutrition Facts
Asparagus is one of the most nutritionally well-balanced vegetables in existence. It leads nearly all produce in the wide array of nutrients it supplies in significant amounts for a healthy diet. It is estimated that consumption of 400mcg of folate daily would reduce the number of heart attacks suffered in the US each year by 10%. Just one serving of asparagus supplies almost 66% of the daily recommended intake of folate. Folate, a B-vitamin, is essential for proper cellular division because it is necessary in DNA synthesis. This is especially important during pregnancy. Asparagus is also great at promoting healthy bacteria in the gut. In addition, asparagus is useful in reducing swelling from arthritis as well as PMS-related water retention.
